Oracle JDeveloper 10g - Evolution of an IDE
So I started talking about Oracle JDeveloper after all. I must admit that JDeveloper has evolved to be a nice IDE for Java and Java/Database webservices. The initial versions of this IDE, (versions 3.x etc) were pain to work with, but the latest 10g is smooth.
To give a feel of what it offers-
* Wizard based code generation for EJBs
* Refactoring tools [primitive, Move Class/Rename Class]
* UML diagrams [class,usecase, activity,sequence]
* UML to code binding
* WebDAV support
* Java and PL/SQL web services
* Swing Editor
* JSP/HTML editor
* Oracle Application Development framework - This makes development of routine CRUD applications a zip!
* Built in Struts support
* Built in Jakarta ANT support
* Profiling.Debugging support
* Great support form SQL, comes with a SQL Worksheet
* Support for CVS,Clearcase, Oracle SCM
* and, built-in application server for speedy code-compile-test cycles for J2EE apps
uh... and lots more..
Basically, Im hooked to it and dont want to change. Sometimes its quirky, but overall nice.
Another project that Im working on is a full featured XML editor, originally aimed to be a plugin for Oracle JDeveloper (http://otn.oracle.com) . Me and few of my collegues have started this one. Still in its infancy, Ill keep this thread updated.
Oh, BTW I work for Oracle.
Im working on a project in java for analysing web server logs, for the last (almost) one year! This one is for one of my friends who runs a small company, specializing in web admin tools.
I have stumbled upon a 'programmers block' at the end of this project, and this block started a few months ago. Not sure if every programmer has this phase in his/her life, just wanna run away from the code.Hope I can overcome this soon.
Coming back to the product, it has a decent UI for generating various reports, tagging one report with others, facilities to get logfiles over http/ftp/local file system, ability to create multiple log profiles,scheduled processing etc. Overall the system looks cool, but is far from complete.
The productis done with Java, HSQL db and some regex packages from the ever reliable Apache.
I'll keep updating this thread for more info.. Probably some screenshots , if I buy blogspot Plus :)

Okay,no desktop publishing. no news imports , but more than enough for me!
This one is cool.
